I might not be the richest guy on here, but I am not poor, either. Still, I always wonder where some of my fellow mongers are coming up with so much disposal income to support their hobby. At a minimum of $100 a visit, and typically closer to $200 or more, how are some of you managing multiple visits every month or most weeks?

Thanks in advance!

We have been (at least I was!) told to keep saving for retirement, that rainy day etc..and now after 50 I realize that all those savings might not mean much later.
This I started using some of the funds..basically investing less and using more. And this all is discrete, paperless account etc.
But if your Q is how to earn more money than that's a different topic!

I work 40 hours a week and gross about $120k per year. Not bad, but after mortgage, car payment, and all sorts of other expenses (including retirement fund), I don't have enough to treat myself more than about once a month. Just wondering if I am a typical monger, not a "super monger", LOL. Not to disparage anyone...I would love to go more often.

That's quite decent number.... I am pretty sure u can set aside 12K a year for yourself to spend. I chose to stay with my over 10 year old car and that itself will fund the next 4-5 years!

For me funding becomes a matter of cash flow. Certain times are pretty dry, others a little more flexible. Like Boogie, my "shelf life" is nearing it's "expiration date." That's why i have a very very small number of G.T.G's who fully understand my needs and limitations. After all, there are some days that I may not be able to "cut the mustard," but I can always "lick the jar !!! "

I’m physically approaching the end of my career as a monger. I plan to do as many times a month as I can physically perform combined with how often I can find an excuse to be gone 2-3 hours. Money has nothing to do with that equation.
Sounds like you are planning to go out with a bang...well, multiple bangs!!! LOL.

That's a good point about finding excuses to be gone 2-3 hours...definitely limited opportunities for those of us with wives or live-in gf's. In my case, I don't work Fridays, but my wife does. So, I could play most Fridays...if I could afford it.

Hint: When you are young, practice delayed gratification. Save your $$ when you are young and take up this hobby once your nest egg is established and growing on its own. That applies to a lot of other things too (eating out, expensive cars, even $5 coffee drinks). Otherwise, you might have to work until you drop.

I plan on working till I drop.
My father retired at 78 and dropped right after hitting 80.
If you keep working...you can live forever!

Just last yr I started to earn over $100k.. Have no cc debts. Car note & mortgage pmt though. This yr ima earn $110k. Next year hoping to get to about $125k.

However I think we are on the low end of hobbyists on this board and TNA that are at least NYC bound. The thing is ik when im in my 50's I would be earning minimum 50pct more not counting cola. Lotta mongers 60's. Should be earning $200k +.

The way some spend money on here im sure there's quite a few $300k hobbyists on here.

Good for you!
Think even bigger going forward!
Obviously I do not know your industry, but if you get the opportunity to break off and start your own business, give it a shot if it makes sense.
I had an something like that present itself to me 21 years ago, ad I will always regret not going for it. I was 32 and happy with the very good money I was making,
and didn't feel the need to take risk. But that is EXACLTY when we should take risks! When we are young enough to recover from failures. I do well in my field, but
I am not a owner/boss. There is something special about that. If you get the chance, give is a shot.

One smart thing I have done in my life is never, and I mean NEVER, going into debt. I can do so much now because of that.

Have a great night.

Yeah, but in that case, you are working because you want to. Not because you HAVE to. Huge difference. The older I get, the more I push back my retirement date. Not because I have to, but because I'd probably be bored-to-shit after I retire.

I had my own business at age 22. Closed it at 24-25. I started off too big. Was wayyyy to optimistic and didn't think to be more cost effective.

That bothered me a bit for a few yrs but I brushed it aside by dating a lot of non pros.

Good way to recover!
Don't let let that one failure stop you in the future if you get the chance again.

Really? I'm around the same boat as you financially, standard bills (mortage, car, phone utilities etc) Then set aside for 401k, some small investments and you should have a decent amount left over to "blow" if you wanted...
