I picked The Lone Swordsman as a handle when I lived in Tokyo out of respect for the fictional character The Blind Swordsman.
It was The Blind Swordsman movie series in which the main character, Zatoichi, is a solitary figure roaming Japan. Zatoichi poses as a wandering blind masseuse, but he stumbles across bad people and he dispatches justice with his sword. In numerous movies, Zatoichi was portrayed by the actor, Katsu Shintaro.
The Blind Swordsman wandered the streets of Japan giving massages; The Lone Swordsman (me) wandered the streets of Tokyo receiving massages and other incredibly pleasurable experiences.
On (now defunct) websites in the past, I was known as The Lone Swordsman in Tokyo. Now, I am LoneSwordsman_NY because I wander around NY.
The Blind Swordsman was probably the inspiration for the American TV series, Kung Fu.
