So my wife thought it was a good idea for the family to download life360, a family tracking app. Now she can see where I am and where I've been. I think I'm fucked. How does a hobbyist deal with this?

For what it is worth, a lot of apps track location and show it to others unless you turn it off. Snapchat is another popular app that will show your location to others unless you turn it off. If you haven't and you are concerned about your location whereabouts being public, check your apps and also what has the right to use "location services". Most can be turned on/off within the app, but just be aware there are many common apps people don't think of (messaging, posting apps, travel apps, etc.) that also show location.

Airplane mode will work as long as you are not in range of wi-fi that you connect to. Bottom line is, take the time to look under general - settings - and go through and look at your apps and the options they have and enable/disable selected option accordingly.

The location thing on Life360 is a battery hog. It is easy to demonstrate what it does to battery on phones as it sucks the living crap out of battery. You can periodically turn it on to show location, then turn it back off and your last location is still displayed, but grayed out. That is where "once I reached my destination" I disabled the updating to save battery life. Turn it back on later and make her happy when you are on the move again.

You can also root you phone if its android and spoof your GPS location to where you want.

You’re toast, dude. I’m keeping my wife from activating ‘Find Your Phone’ for my device, I’m not on the Cloud or any of that because once your movements can be tracked in real time, you’re done.
