Only thought about it one time when an American provider I saw a few times at a spa messaged me that she was getting a room for the day. Don't trust that at all
If it's someone you've seen a few times, I don't think it's that risky. I had the exact situation you describe: an American provider I'd seen several times (at Aavalon) offered to see me at a hotel on a day she wasn't working at the spa. She offered me a slightly discounted total rate. I went and had an excellent time with her.

Do that with someone you've never met, though, is an entirely different matter.

So the dude contacts a hooker, arranges to meet her in a hotel, he books the room and waits for her and instead gets rolled, then he calls the police to report a crime that occurs while he is in the act of committing a crime? OK.

Since he didn’t voluntarily hand over the money he didn’t violate the law? Maybe?

Somehow the reporter got the information that he was waiting in the room for the hooker he arranged to pay for sex. There's better ways to explain to the wife how you lost your wallet than a pimp kicked my ass and took it from me.
Was there anything to say he was married? If not, I agree with @Martyw. He did not commit a crime. And he was the victim of a crime. He could claim a lot of things about meeting the hooker that wouldn't involve a crime. "I just wanted someone to talk to.", for example.

Reminds me of a story I heard about the guy who went to the police station to report that he had been robbed of the illegal drugs he was trying to sell.

Some crimes are far, far worse than other "infractions".
I would never do what this guy did, nor would I EVER EVEN COME CLOSE to contacting the types that he invovled himself with here, but if I were ever in a similar situation I would contact LE and press charges as well.

“He could claim a lot of things about meeting the hooker that wouldn't involve a crime.”

Yea, a lot of reasons but none would hold water. Like, I was doing some research for an article. For LE, to buy his story, they were looking at something bigger.

The bottom line is, he committed no crime. I'm pretty sure that meeting a prostitute is not a crime.

It is absolutely not a crime. Just imagine what would happen if you co workers found out about it. That rummer would not run dry for decades. Hey, their Joe Shmo, did you hear about him getting rolled by a prostitute?

Hopefully I'm wrong but I doubt that the police left this guy go scott free. If I was in this unfortunate situation, I think I'd try to cover the bruises and be damn glad to get out of there without anyone knowing. Of course, I wouldn't have ever had my wallet on me in this situation in the first place lol.

I understand the legal point that he didn't commit a crime but the hassle he could be put though could be almost as bad. Not to mention I wouldn't want the stories about it passed around between family members, colleagues, etc.

When did Governor Wolf sign the bill that finally legalized prostitution?

The story states he was waiting for the prostitute he made arrangements to meet. Making arrangements to pay someone in exchange for sex IS the crime. The email, text or other dialogue between the "hooker" and the "John" constitutes the crime.

You don't text or email negotiating your pay for pussy date then show up and claim "I just wanted to talk to someone".

Guys I am only going through this over explanation to make guys safer. Forewarned is forearmed.
