Despite the concentration of pharmaceutical companies, NJ seems to have more problems getting any vaccine than New York. My 51 yo friend in NYC got Pfizer shot a couple of weeks ago and we in NJ are still waiting for 55+ to be eligible after April 5. Once eligible, when anyone can actually get the vaccine is another issue.

I HIGHLY recommend that you continue to practice protective behaviors, including masking and distancing wherever possible. Get vaccinated. This disease is as random as it is devastating. For some it is nothing, for others it is an annoyance, but it can also be critical, and deadly, not just for the old and infirm.
Underlying your point of random as it is devastating, I know several families where the family members all lived together, where one member ended up in the hospital, another member tested positive but no symptoms whatsoever and other members of the family were either mildly sick, or tested negative.

I’ve noticed that as well as friends around the country have been getting vaccinated while friends in NJ struggle to get appointments.

Although it seems to be getting better.

I know one thing: I got my North Carolina driver’s license by appointment and in approximately one hour.

At the time, I was reading about waits of hours and long lines in New Jersey at DMVs.

NJ eventually did one thing right. When the DMV offices reopened they were swamped. And, then they had to keep closing them due to Covid. So, they decided to allow a renewal by mail. Very convenient and very effective.

those looking for the J&J shot, this is why you can't find it. Pretty big screw up

"The news that the contractor, Emergent BioSolutions, had ruined 15 million doses of Johnson & Johnson's vaccine by mistakenly mixing it with ingredients from another coronavirus shot became public on Wednesday"
You are wrong. Plenty where I live. Why are you spreading misinformation?

it's not misinformation, it's an actual quote from Politico what happened in a plant in Maryland on Wednesday, and 15 million doses were lost causing a national shortage of J&J. So, happy there are plenty near you, you must be special. There are none near me and the drugs store chains etc have all switched to other vaccines. But next time I think about sharing some actual newsworthy info I will think twice because of snide comments such as yours.

I think his point (maybe?) is what happened a couple days ago during manufacturing has no bearing on availability of vaccines TODAY. Will it have an impact in a few weeks time? Maybe, maybe not; the company has said that incident won't impact their delivery commitments, but that could just be marketing doublespeak. Regardless that incident has nothing to do with how much J&J is on the street TODAY.

Pm5805 is correct.

You said 'this is why you can't find it'. But it isn't why today or tomorrow you can't find the J&J vaccine.

Saying it caused a national shortage is nonsense.

That is an alarmist statement from a political site, and spreading it without digging deeper and critically thinking feeds into political misinformation. .

This MD plant was not yet FDA approved to deliver any product and this run was stopped before it was finished. What happened has zero effect on what is out there now. It will reduce what can be delivered in the future, that is obvious.

Let's face it, we will have vaccine coming out he ass soon. Everyone chill out. If you really want to find a vaccine try:

I know one person now who received the J&J. No issues. Frankly, other than some minor issues, the worst being flu-like, I don't know of serious problems with any of them. This is people I know personally.

J&J vaccine is abundant in my area, but most vaccine centers don't publicize which they have.

The side effect I am looking for is immunity! I've had both doses of the mRNA platform vaccine and aside from a slight pain in my arm, there was nothing else that I noticed. If they injected saline into my muscle it would cause pain.

What are the major differences between them? moderna and pfizer is new technology while J&J uses the same method as the traditional flu vaccine?
moderna is the most effective, pfizer is number two but j&j's method has been around for a long time and has the standard side effects and potential long term side effects while moderna and pfizer is unknown for long term effect since it is new?
All of them give you large penis. Now go

I look forward to my second shot of Moderna, and maybe actually hobbying again and writing reviews here. And maybe baseball games and dinners out. I feel like I’ve been lurching around for life in a long cold fog.

Got 1st dose of Moderna a few weeks back,2nd is due this coming week. Arm was sore for about 2 days, felt a little tired but not much else. Still went to work and gym after vaccine and no issues thankfully. From the research i've read on Moderna one has a 52% efficacy within 1-2 weeks,92% after those two weeks, and 94.1 after the 2nd and final shot. Due to my line of work i was fortunate enough to get the vaccine already and would of taken whatever was offered.

Being a novel virus we really dont know how we'll react, sure you can read the studies of mild effects and people saying it was like the flu. Then you see others whom the virus attacks heart, lungs, kidneys, liver,,it can be quite a nasty little bastard. The smart money is on the vaccine, whether you've had Covid or not. I for one dont wanna be lying in the hospital or on my deathbed haunted by the fact i had the opportunity to protect myself against this and didn't act on it. It's peace of mind for this hobby and going out in public in general IMHO.

Well said. I am also a recipient of first dose Moderna. Second dose in two weeks.

Given I knew two people who died because of the virus, and also having a relative with terrible health problems after recovering from the virus, getting the vaccine was a no-brainer for me.

I thought it was higher after one dose.

  • Vaccine effectiveness of partial immunization — greater than 14 days after first dose, but before second dose — was 80%.
