Yep, that’s a rerun I already saw 5 times this week. It’s just a predictable path. Politics and misogyny kill decent conversation. It’s like the guy running around with a hammer, trying to pound anything that looks like a nail with his views. Start an anti-women thread, so the rest of us can ignore it if we want.

Not my intention. I merely pointed out that you made a valid point. It doesn't mean I agree with your point of view. I agreed with TGBeldin's.
Fine. Agree with who you like.
But the fact is that I stayed on topic here. Your friend "waterboy" was the one trying to derail the thread. Or shut it down once it went in a direction he didn't like.

He did was he thought was best. This thread has been derailed a few times with the JAV talk. But that's the nature of this board. When someone has something to say, topics takes a backseat.

This guy is always so eager to kill discussion. Guess it's AMP talk 24/7 or bust. God forbid in the discussion section we dare stray from P4P/girl reviews for even a second.
Personally, I don't see the need for killing threads, except in very extreme circumstances (e.g., members threating physical violence against each other).

When SH was up, some threads would stray very far indeed from the original purpose, but cannot recall the Admin ever shutting any down. Or, if he did, the threshold for closure was a lot higher. And there was a category SH topics that were specifically not AMP related. It seemed that those were the threads that could go on forever, especially if they were about politics. I think one infamous Trump thread went on for years (imagine that). And, of course, nothing got resolved.

If a thread is uninteresting, it will die on its own. Or devolve into 2-3 members shouting at each other (those might be candidates for closure).

Well, that's my SH nostalgia post for this week.

So posting a link to Japanese porn is staying on topic?
How did I try to derail the thread "slim"?
What I tried to do was get it closed BEORE it went 100% off topic and devolved into another discussion about the evils of women. Something I personally find inappropriate for this board and very offensive.

Why do you think that what YOU feel personally about a topic should count for so much? One guy gets offended for whatever reason and therefore a thread should be shut down? Get over yourself already.

I happen to like Japanese porn and hentai quite a bit. Maybe too much. But its to the point where if someone says "Japan", I start thinking about Japanese porn. It's almost a Pavlovian response. I can't separate the two things, especially because their porn gives a unique insight into Japanese culture.

Personally, I don't think there is anything wrong with going off topic. Metaphysically, think of these discussions as a quest; on that quest, we are searching for information, knowledge, wisdom and even truth. Sometimes you have to wander and zig-zag and explore the vast landscape to find it. If you just stay in the place you started, you will only see what is immediately around you. That does not make for a very productive quest.

Personally I would have liked to find out if it was possible. Instead of having more than 75% of the posts being completely off topic, just because you opened a side topic with the first reply. Maybe this place isn't for any serious discussions besides AMP's and provider's performances.

Hey, this is America so anything is possible; however, probable is another story. And, yeah, you definitely picked the wrong place if you want a serious, focused discussion. Especially in an open forum with this crew (myself included). If serious is what you want, suggest hand picking a few trusted mongers and opening a PM on a given topic. Otherwise, you get what you get.

I've been dealing with internet discussions since the mid-80's. Starting with dial-up BB Boards and UUNet. The two key actors of maintaining a discussion is user discipline, and lacking that, proper moderation. Lacking both is how you have the space to allow discussions to go willy-nilly.At least now I know I can take a discussion off topic since it's considered the norm here.

Personally I dont mind discussions going off topic, but its kinda useless when it goes around in circles with 2 guys just yelling the same thing to each other. Or it feels hopeless when every issue gets turned into a platform to hype personal political beliefs, or fringe morality, like women shouldnt vote.

Its like the anti-vaccination people / vaxxers argument thats always spinning around. Or people saying everything they disagree with is fake news.
