Sorry, Wayne, but "yes it is bad" does not quite capture the scale of this mess. Especially when you lump it in with other minor outbreaks we've dealt with in the past, and when you point to only a few cases nearby so far. Angela Merkel, hardly a histrionic world leader, thinks up to 70% of Germans will get the disease. If the mortality rate is even half the current estimate of 3%, that's more than a million deaths in Germany alone.
It's hard to see how any amount of posting, talking, reminding is "over-hyping" a potential disaster on that scale.
I don't deny that there is some chance you are right--namely, that this will turn out to be less of a catastrophe than the scientists think it will be. But in this case, I think the smart thing to do is err on the side of extra precaution, and that includes making sure everyone is aware of how serious this may be, and that they are doing everything possible to slow down the spread of the disease.
