For any of you interested , recently on a radio talk show they were talking about the best right handed hitters of the recent generation late 90s till now . They listed 4 that were up for discussion . Miguel Cabrera , Albert Pujols , Manny Ramirez & Alex Rodriguez . For a combination of power , batting average , clutch hitting is how they were measuring . They indicated that the so called experts had great arguments for all four . Curious about any thoughts among you fellow baseball fans . For me , A-Rod is a toss out within this group . Pujols was off the charts with St. Louis but the second half of his career really tailed off to where his lifetime average is under .300 . Between the other two , I am going with Cabrera . I feared him most as a Yankee fan . Manny R was awesome too , but the occasional funk and spaciness makes him my second choice of the four .

Mike Trout hasn't been in the bigs long enough to generate the counting numbers like the four mentioned above, but he has been so dominant in the last decade that he has to be part of the conversation.

If just going by who I most dreaded seeing at bat then as a Yankee fan it has to be Edgar Martinez.
Obviously not on the level as the four mentioned, but a greater late inning Yankee killer I believe cannot be found.
Eddie Murray and Doug Decinces would be tied at #2 for the way they would hit Ron Guidry (switch hitter Murray would be batting as a righty against Guidry).

But sticking to the thread, I would go with Pujols. Almost 180 more homers than Cabrera and nearly 400 more RBIs wipes out the batting average lead Cabrera has, IMO.

I'm a life long Red Sox fan. Got no respect at all for ARod, he always disappeared at crunch time. Same was mostly true for Manny except for a couple years. I watched him hit into more late inning double plays than anyone else in the league. I'd take Pujols off that list.

Interesting responses ; BigBob I am always curious of a fan who has watched a player his whole career such as you with Manny R to get a more hands on perspective . That is why I tossed out A- Rod - one of my least favorite Yankees . As a Red Sox rival , I feared David Ortiz way more than Manny . Slim , good mention on Edgar Martinez - that guy even hit Mariano in his prime . He destroyed the Yanks . On to Pujols , It is hard to believe what a difference in his performance after changing leagues . Lefty , Griffey would be on anyone’s list as an all time all around great player . He made some of the greatest catches I ever saw , along with his 600+ homers .

I loved Ortiz, much preferred him to be up in key situation versus Manny. Likewise feared Jeter more than ARod. If we stuck to your original 4 and I put them in my order it would be Pujols, Cabrera, ARod, Manny. I'd prefer to drop a couple generations and talk Mays versus Aaron though. Those guys were real men.

Those guys were awesome . Very difficult choice between the two . I suppose most would go for Mays due to his stylish , acrobatic style of play and him being more of a running threat . There is a reason when I played I always wore #24 ; but Aaron’s quick wrists , productivity and humbleness won me over as well . And they both did it during some of the most pitching dominant years . I honestly don’t think I could separate the two .

Clemente needs to be in that mix too.

That mid to late 60s, early 70s era was the best of my life for baseball. Not only great players, but also that the evil empire was gone from the series from 65-75 and we got fun teams like the Amazins and the As. Too many great players to list them all. Fun managers too like Weaver, Martin, Alston.

Yes , back then I was too young to know to hate the Mets and the Red Sox ; I am a true Yankee fan , not a hop on board type as I started rooting for them in 65 . They sucked for years but Mantle & Pepitone were my heroes , followed by Munson & Mercer . I rooted for the Sox in 67 and the Mets in 69 but loved the A’s so I rooted for them in 73 . Only later did I officially hate the Red Sox when I went to college up there . Back then the managers mattered so much - not like now as they have become puppets

There’s a famous whorehouse in Santo Domingo called, “Mona Lisa”. They have young and sexy models. Most of the girls are from Santiago and Moca.

Winter ball is played in December and that’s when I usually visit the DR to attend a few baseball games and monger. One time I went to Mona Lisa and a few MLB ball players were having a beer and chatting with the girls. lol.
