Citizenship question was removed because historically it had not been asked and because most people believed that the purpose behind asking the question was to deter people from responding to the census in the first place (thus actually causing an undercount in states with populations where families might include people here illegally and thus not want to answer the census.)

After the census agency itself could not come up with a rationale to justify asking about citizenship status, they went fishing and came up with the idea that it would help DOJ enforce voting rights enforcement. But the supreme court affirmed the trial court's finding after a trial that this was all pretextual and that the Commerce Department essentially made up the reasons why they wanted to ask the question.

And refugees are generally matched where there are existing private charities that want to help the group in question. There is a decnet size Somali community in Maine now. A lot of Hmong moved to california.

If it were up to me I would send all the refugees to cities that have had massive population drops in the last 40-50 years, like Detroit and Buffalo.

I don't visit illegals. I visit the ones that come here on a 2 year visa. They leave after 2 years and then I go find another. Do you have a basement or a couch or an extra room? You may want to go out and invite some of these asylum seekers to stay with you until they get settled in and find a job. The food and bags of clothes can only do so much really. Do you have a garage? Even a garage or a tent in your backyard can help a great deal. Definitely look into that.
