Any of you ever read Tracy Kidder's Soul of A New Machine?

Great book about Data General taking on DEC.

The guys who started Data General were from DEC, which greatly pissed off DEC.

IBM hated Data General, too. IBM was always saying that Data General would make the mini computer market illegitimate.

Yes they would bring it home but that is how the immunity is built. ANYONE with a compromised immune system or older folks have to be careful anytime there things like this going around including the regular flu that kills a lot every year.

To each his own, Fortunately our health experts disagree with your suggested approach. In the process of building this immunity, many will get the virus. Not just the old or those with already compromised immune systems - younger, healthy people are dying from this as well. I'm sure you've seen this on the news. The UK started out thinking that herd immunity was the way to go but quickly slammed the brakes on that when their public health care system started to become overwhelmed. However, Sweden for now is still going down this path. We'll see how this works out for them.

Did anyone notice that Japan is paying domestic companies to relocate manufacturing facilities in China back to Japan or move them to other counties?

“Japan will devote more than $2.2 billion of its coronavirus economic stimulus package to incentivize its manufacturers to move their production out of China as relations fray between the neighboring countries in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The record stimulus plan provides $2 billion for manufacturers to transfer production to Japan and over $216 million to help companies move production to other countries. Imports from China, Japan’s biggest trading partner, were down by nearly 50 percent in February as facilities in China closed while the coronavirus ripped through the country.”

This is big, especially coming from Japan. Talk about a response. With factories closing and relocating likely their will be further disruptions i the supply chain. Financial repercussions will be unfolding for a while.

Hope the mkt continues to rally. I’m also concerned about the incredibly low interest rates.

We are definitely in a no mans land for stocks at this point. All of the bombs thrown out there from the Fed, Treasury, and Congress pulled the market off 18K.
It will take a couple of weeks to digest the financial numbers as well as the sickness numbers.
I am on the road every morning at the same time because of essential worker status. I will tell you that traffic has picked up the past three weeks and I expect it to continue picking up next week.

I do not think these people are traveling during rush hour traffic to go on an extended vacation. The are working on plans to get their businesses back up and running.

I am wondering how essential workers keep growing every week? My guess is that it is the private sector workers who are prepping for the transition back to normal.
I really do not think the private sector is waiting for government approval, they are starting to expect it.
The other interesting thing I noticed was some businesses that I assumed would be non essential were open. I have my protection on and I am not swapping spit with anyone, so I stopped in. I asked what they did to qualify as essential and I noticed some items on the counter that were not typical items you would buy at this store. I smiled and bought the non-essential items I could use to keep my time occupied.

The business had wipes, hand sanitize and disposable masks on a table at the entrance. the sign said no mask, no enter. I am not going to scream and yell about this new and creative method for getting businesses up and running as soon as possible.

I can imagine the business owners and employees have a vested interest in protecting themselves and their customers. I for one am very interested in seeing this country up and running again. My family and I will definitely be heading out to restaurants to show our support as soon as they open. I am sure they will be taking added precautions to assure the customers comfort level.

I should have invested in Polyvinyl sheets and PVC pipes manufacturers. Given how many places I've been to that have used them as make shift barriers between the customers and the cashiers.

It’s was a projection, the same argument I used in the other discussion about their immunity method, applies to the math. Too early to tell. By default, any country that didn’t go into lockdown will do better financially.
