So recently spoke about this with friends . A lot came to mind among us . I went with Ali- Frazier . My second was Yanks- Red Sox . Figured I would throw it out there . Just watched the first and third of the Ali- Frazier and they were insane . Thrilla in Manila my all time favorite fight ; no prefight hype could ever outdo the first fight.

Football has some amazing rivalries. I would say Chicago vs Green Bay. Those two teams have been beating each other twice a year for over 100 years.
I got to watch the Jets/Giants this weekend. Not much of a rivalry. More like two stepchildren fighting each other and the dad is too disinterested in watching or caring about the outcome.

Ohio Sate Vs Michigan State.

basketball was Wilt Chamberlin/Bill Russell. Larry Bird/Magic Johnson
Duke North Carolina

baseball. Red Sox, Yankees

hockey Canada/Russia

I had an uncle who would not stop talking about Palmer and Nicholus.

They are the ones that I remember that affected everyone.

Locally the Phillies/Mets Eagles and there Meadowland miracles make us either laugh or cry.

Who doesn't love the big east tournament in MSG.

I went to Fenway many times in college ( late 70s ) , and tensions got high a few times for sure . The rivalry was at its best , as the players truly hated each other , not like now where it seems like it is one big fraternity . We sat in the bleachers because we were broke , and tried to speak to the bullpen players when we were near , and used to get responses from Bill Lee and Bob Stanley sometimes . The big price controversy in Boston one year was when they signed Bill Campbell as a free agent , the Red Sox explained to the fan base that to be the reason bleacher seats went from $1.50 to $2.00 . Most nervous I ever was at a sporting event was the 1978 playoff game , the Bucky Dent game . It was insane .

As a lifelong Mets fan I would say the Braves are our biggest rival. For hockey it’s Rangers versus Islanders; some Islanders fans are knowledgeable and respectful, others are white trash arseholes. For football it’s Giants versus Cowboys for me. Cowboys fans are some of the worst examples of human life out there.
