So I'm going to Thailand in two or three months. Any tips for best flights there? What airline to book? I've got tons of AMEX points so may be using those to book if anyone has relevant info for pertaining to that

Thai’s airlines from JFK
Thai Airway doesn't have any flights from the US - they've been disallowed for safety reasons since maybe 10 years ago. In fact there are no direct flights on any airline, and it's a long, long trip. So the best advice is to find the best/shortest routing with as few stops as possible.

I've flown Phila to Bangkok 6 times and Qatar Air has been the best experience...1 stop in Doha then to Bangkok...assuming they fly out of JFK, but not sure...Comfortable flights and top notch(and very beautiful) attendants.
Highly suggest .

I almost always go there from NYC via Cathay Pacific. They go through HK. You can xfer Amex points to this Asia miles program, I think. But I’ve never done that part. Cathay Pacific is a little pricey, but it’s very high quality.
This is actually what I'm currently looking at, before I saw this post. Thanks!

No business class awards available for CX currently.
I have used Qatar and JAL with AA points recently both excellent
AMEX points poor value but I transferred MR points to Singapore Air and flew business class non stop EWR to Singapore and then on to either BKk or HKT as a better deal

MR = Amex Membership Rewards, aka your Amex points.

There are a couple ways to redeem them: 1) transfer to a participating airline, like Cathay, and then book through the airline's rewards program; or 2) book through Amex travel and pay with points.

I would be very wary of option 1), especially with Cathay/Asia Miles (the Cathay rewards program). It may be different now, but several years ago, their rewards ticket availability was absolutely shit, especially in business class. So you could easily end up transferring the points and not find a ticket.

I'd look at option 2, booking through Amex travel with points. Be creative and search one way fares each way separately, varying dates, etc. I've found some killer deals with one way tickets, last year I found a biz class ticket for 200k points, and then just paid cash for the return leg on another airline.
