How do you handle when a location asks for ID over text?

I've been with a few agencies where I've never been asked for identification till I'm at the location. Recently I was asked by one and decided it wasn't worth it / will stick with the ones I already know.

Do you share your ID over messaging?

Call me paranoid but I wouldn't do it even with blocked out information.
This prevented me from going to AL/PE where they both wanted me to text them my ID and didn't accept me coming in person to show it to them. Better safe than sorry in these cases imo.

I usually just tell them that I will show id's in person. They sometimes ask personal id and work id to show. I tell them what places I've been to. Also, I say that I'm on ampreviews. They might ask you to pm them from here.

PE asked me to show personal and work ID. I went there without the work ID and had to go to another place.

do not do it ever

i did it when i was a first time newbie using backpage and didn't know any better. i was young and stupid. they saved my ID and always sent me very explicit ads in texts using my full name. it went on for years

they probably still have my ID saved somewhere

i've been in the hobby for 15 years now and i have never ever had to show ID since then... if someone asks for ID, just move along.

I prefer to know that where I sin, everyone shows an ID (for big agencies), or a selfie and business card for others. Actually, this is open information, and how did it get there "how do I know"?)). It’s safer for me to know that there’s an ordinary guy like me in the next room. Who just wants to have fun and leave. He will not create problems with his "unexpected" behavior, neither himself nor me nor the agency!

Yeah, that's the agency that prompted the question. I don't mind showing something in person but seems risky otherwise

Sending your ID to an illegal business does literally nothing

It doesn't keep out LE. If LE want to bust a place, they can easily get around the "send me your ID photo" stuff

Even worse - if a place gets busted/raided, your personal info is now on file and accessible to LE

If the place changes owners and they decide they want to start extorting customers, they have your personal info to do it with. There are tales here of agencies (like KD) being brought down by unstable providers who tried to start blackmailing and extorting people with screening info that was on file

References are the best way and should be the only way. If an agency refuses references, I walk away
