Most def............I don't know about Peru, but I can tell you 100% that in Ecuadorian andean areas, they eat guinea pigs.
The dish is known as Cuy, and can be found in some South American restaurants in Jackson Heights and Rego Park. Peruvian and Ecuadorian. The Andes extends over a 1000 miles South of Ecuador, and all was part of the Inca Empire.

No doubt........I brought up Ecuador because I've practically lived there.........."Cuy" as you correctly referenced has higher protein content than chicken or beef.
