Retail, restaurants, bars, hospitality, taxi services, airlines, and spas lol, are affected the most. The PPP helps business owners only. The long wait times for unemployment benefits from NYS Dept of Labor make the delay in benefits hurt the average worker and prolong the agony. We already have income inequality in the US but this is a redistribution of wealth like never before. Its going to make a bad situation worse. Hope for a vaccine fast!

The PPP allows the businesses to keep people on payroll. If it is not used toward payroll, it will. Need to be paid back. I am a business owner, and have used the PPP to keep my staff paid, I give the option to my staff, if they work, they get paid. If they do not want to work, they dont get paid.

What happens after 8 weeks and your volume remains low? Staff reductions and cost cuttings to stay profitable?

I believe 75 percent has to be used for payroll. My company hasn’t laid anyone off but everyone’s salary has been reduced, with no timeline for restoration. If you can somehow manage to make a sale right now, commissions have also been slashed. I think people are surviving bc it’s very difficult to spend frivolously right now, but the worst is probably yet to come.

I am an independent contractor. All my clients closed in March. All work was paused. It took until last week to get my Unemployment Insurance application approved. Hopefully I start receiving the benefits next week....

I work as a Location Scout and Manager for film/tv productions... the ABC TV show I was working on had it's planned Day 1 of production on the first day of quarantine... soooo I've been unemployed since and with no plans for future work till August (most likely September). Thankfully my union (teamsters) got me three weeks of pay (lower than what I would've gotten but better than a lot of my friends). I'm used to living like a squirrel due to over 10 years in the film business but the absence of possible gigs is now getting rough.

Hang in there! Unemployment sucks and I wouldn't wish that on anybody.
