Quick update everyone….
We really need to get the word “delete” out of our vocabulary once and for all.
We don’t delete shit.
We don’t delete posts, threads and reviews.
And we don’t delete members.
AND…we don’t delete usernames that aren’t being used either.
As for posts, threads, reviews stuff like that, we have what is equivalent to a “Recycle Bin”
When something is “deleted” the translation is that staff has moved the content (out of public view) and into the “Recycle Bin” where it is archived forever. The only exception being if there was ever some sort of illegal content that perhaps some malicious spammer came along and posted before they got shut down. That would NOT be archived, but instead actually deleted ie. physically removed from the server.
So what does this mean to you? Well, for the vast majority on this thread who we have reinstated, a lot of you had a username that we expect you to abandon as part of restoring your previous identity. Whichever username you go with, your abandoned one does NOT get “deleted”. Instead it gets disabled. It gets “powered down” where it can no longer be used or accessed, except in the case of emergency. The username gets removed and replaced with a “retired” tag that includes the date we disabled the handle.
ALL threads, reviews, posts from a “retired” username remain in tact and completely searchable.
And here’s the good news my friends. Some of you have chosen to move forward with one username knowing that the one you’re abandoning has a lot of good posts and reviews.
WE DO have the ability to merge all of those posts and reviews into the active handle.
It’s a little bit of work, and it’s time consuming, but we CAN do it for you, and it would be MY PLEASURE to help you out with that if you would like to get those posts and reviews attached to your current handle. You just need to shoot me a PM with the old username and be clear about which username you want to keep active and have the posts merged into.
A couple caveats: This won’t have any impact on review balance. This is simply to merge all posts and reviews under one username. ALSO, let’s say you have 2 reviews with your current username and you want to merge an account into it that has 100 posts and 10 reviews. We can do it but the software limitations will cause your “Reviews” link to still only reflect 2 reviews. Those 10 that get merged in will be counted as posts. They’ll still look exactly the same, review template in tact, but since the merge feature isn’t tied into the custom code that counts and separates your reviews, it won’t pick that up. A search of your posts picks it all up, though…
Hope that’s not too confusing, and also hope that comes as great news to those of you who’d expressed interest in saving those old reviews from handles we have or will be disabling.
Have a terrific weekend you all!!
