It’s a 67% tip. The norm at a standard massage place is 20%. If the AMP isn’t providing anything extra, why the dramatically increased tip?

Well, I guess I know what Spa does in his free time - he stalks my posts and goes to my first ever post (that ended up being rejected before I understood how this forum worked) to try to troll me rather than contributing to the thread. I’m flattered. <3

Correct. But it's not just you. When someone appears to question the info in another poster's review, I'll look at that person's own reviews. In this case, I thought it was odd that you left a price question unanswered in your own "Oasis" review, yet you twice implied the OP's tip was out of line. I also have a thing about people complaining about others' over-tipping.

If I saw that $40 was the commonly accepted tip for a purely therapeutic massage at an AMP, that’s what I would have felt obligated to give. But I don’t think that’s the case which is why i chimed in for the benefit of other newbies reading the thread trying to figure out how this works, and to confirm my current understanding.
I have no problem being generous with any service worker. But I wanted to be clear that a $40 tip for a vanilla massage is generosity and not the norm.
Thanks for the very civil reply, Sub. As you've probably noticed, differences of opinion often escalate to pitched war insults around here. A thoughtful explanation like you just posted is a bit of a rarity.
To me, a $40 tip for a good 90-minute AMP massage with no extras is generous, but not outrageously so. I might leave $40 if I felt a connection with the masseuse and/or if I wanted to create some incentive to make me a happy customer on my next visit.

The amount of tip to give should not be up to the provider but should be at the discretion of the one receiving the services.That being said I never tip more than 20 and over the years I have gotten continuous good results and more importantly it makes some of you look good by tipping more.Happy hunting
If I may give my humble opinion, if the spa is korean and they are charging $60, and they know you are not LE, then a HE is part of the service, in which $40 is an expected tip. If the HF is over $60, you can bet that there is more on the menu. If the HF is less than $60, (<40) usually run by Chinese and legit, then a $15 fee is expected for a decent legit massage. If you want it to go offsite or have some roaming, then a greater tip is expected. In many of these legit spas, usually the individual is paid a set fee every day, whether they do 1 massage or 8. Some may be as low as $50/day. At six days a week that's only $300. So you can see why their tips are so important to them, as they keep 100% of their tips. In China, they make 10x less than America. This is why they are happy with a $20 tip, but don't expect more at that price, if she does, it's because she appreciates you in comparison to what she was making in China. I hope this helps all of you non-Asian folks out, as your reviews definitely helped me in the beginning. Now it's time2share.
and one more thing, the above applies to most spas outside of Flushing, esp. NJ/PA/upstate NY. Flushing is a different animal. There $40 + $40 can get you even fs, though I personally don't recommend it. And yes, over there unfortunately there is alot of traffiking or situations in which girls find life so hard that they enter into this field, without the knowledge of their parents.
