There's been a growing chorus of complaints from members about divulging too much information so I determined it wasn't worth getting scolded over it, even though the details are private. Having said that, nothing that I asked for was off the table and there didn't seem to be any rules, which is usually a huge turnoff for me.

Balderdash! There are a select few who bemoan details, and they are generally miserable sorts. The mods will guide you when necessary, if necessary, and there are no restrictions on details as long as you don't reveal personal info or otherwise endanger another person.
