It's not like parking in your driveway at home, but I've yet to experience no parking during early afternoons. I don't know what it's like in the evening, I wouldn't be caught dead anywhere in, near or in proximity to "downtown" after dark. The criminals 100% rule the streets in Philly now, same as every major city in America.

Criminals or homeless or nut cases.
In Feb. 2019 I was supposed to pick up my (now late) wife after work in Center City, but got stuck up in Monroe county due to car trouble.
She had to find a safe haven in the Walnut Street area, and tried Burger King for awhile, but after work hours the sanatorium brigade takes over and practices their drama inside various establishments. Apparently Burger King is a favorite.
The manager came out and sat with her because he could see she was scared, and then he suggested she go to a yuppie bar across the street. Was finally able to pick her up around 10 pm. Apparently he cannot, or is reluctant to, evict the marginals.
Boy was she pissed when I finally arrived!!

Guess growing up in the city I have a different tolerance for crime and safety. I always go at night. I park along Spring Garden or down near 9VIP and walk. Of course, be safe. It’s not a great area but there is some life (Silk City, Union Transfer, Bar, etc…). Just take the $ you need if you are worried. Lock everything else in the car. More for when you are walking back to your car and personal pref (I also don’t like leaving a lot in my pockets during a TS). I might also be a lot younger than others on this thread. IDK.

Crime is on the uptick too. Can’t deny that.

No one is worried about their precious personal items, or cash.

Your age does not matter either.

Being caught completely off guard, beaten savagely and/or shot with intent to kill is a reality today.

You can think you're a fearless, young tough guy, until a sneak punch and 4 animals start kicking your teeth in and snapping your ribs with their kicks while laughing makes you piss your pants and pretty much realize you're dying.

Awww crap, you made a liar out of me!
It was a Wendy's, and it's on Chestnut.
Shoulda put error bars around those features!
Rest of the story is accurate, though.
Don't recall the name of the Yuppie bar, and not gonna chance guessing at it!
Lol....I live downtown, know the area well:)

First. If I offended, it wasn’t my intent. Second, I’m not fearless. It’s just smart not to carry a bunch of things with you. I’m fearful. Always. And that practice has saved my life a couple times. And as far as assaults, I’ll tell you stories from first hand experience. I live downtown.

I wasn't offended but I don't think you realize how bad it actually is in CC. It used to be safe there but overall in the city there's 120 carjackings.... just this month. Olde City had one last week on Market around 12:00 am-dude and his girl in a 2020 RangeRover jacked, the Rolex watch crew that was going around and multiple shootings downtown. Being aware of your surroundings does nothing against 3 guys jumping out on you with guns-which they are doing. I have family and friends that are cops- they can't help you. They are short over 1000 cops and the DA doesn't prosecute. Be careful everyone! https://6abc.com/armed-robberies-philadelphia-crime-spree-center-city/11322665/

Well said. I was replying to Kantuchdis actually. The city is bad. I’m not in denial. I hear you. Being aware of your surroundings is a little part, but not everything. Many friends in law enforcement and military also. MrChan going with a friend is a great idea. Numbers are good. You always take a risk walking alone. Day or night. I meant growing up in the city I’ve been lucky and developed an eye for things. Still. I’m not stupid or think I’m invulnerable. I played rugby for years, so I guess I’m not that small. IDK. Always felt the smallest on the field.

Only having cash on me helped me deescalate a couple muggings. I just gave them the cash and they left. Still. I was super lucky too.

Heard about the Old City jacking. That crew is trouble. I used to live in Queen Village during the time flash mobs used to jump on people. I was friend with the Starbucks employee that was beaten while working the counter. 2010 about.
