I am surprised the airlines are not selling air travel miles in this current circumstance. I would love to book a ton of miles cheap which would help them out of a jam and give me a ton of fun vacations in the future.

The east coast beaches are going to be an absolute mess this year with everyone wanted to go on a vacation but no one wanting to get on a plane.

Give it some time. During the 2008/09 crash they started offering great bonuses in 2010. Of course with this thing they are keeping fingers crossed for a quick rebound. I wouldn't be surprised if you can make a plethora of bonus points starting January of 2021 regarding airlines,hotel brands, and triple them with affiliated credit card rewards programs. I got insane miles bonuses between 2010 and 2012.

All the direct flight routes have been cancelled and I'm not in the mood to deal with the Charlotte or Chicago airports connection bullshit. lol. Easily 2 of the worst airports. Airlines saying it costs more to maintain parked planes is bullshit when 70% of my flights have been delayed due to "mechanical issues". lol. You have time to fix those damn planes now if you want to spend the money on it. I'm kidding of course. Big difference between that maintenance and getting my tires rotated.

Governor Wolf still thinks real estate is non essential. My entire life, I have been told food, water and shelter are the three essential things in life. I guess when you grow up rich, the shelter portion is taken for granted.

Other NE states are about the same. Not a good sign. With so much broken, too much time is spent on rules that make no sense.

Along with oxygen, aren’t food clothing and shelter essential? All these stores shut down as they are deemed non essential. But stores from wawa to Walmart can remain open. It’s not just stupid it’s not right.

I think the general list was federal, but the NE states definitely accepted clothing stores as non-essential. It's not so bad now, but it was cold in March.

I sold my car when I moved a few years ago; when I moved back I decided I didn't need one and didn't want to buy another one. Unfortunately, essential businesses included gas stations, auto repair and car rental (but not auto sales in PA or DE, only limited sales in MD).

Not that I wanted to buy one, but it seemed perverse to shut down car sales at the same time that they created obstacles to any alternatives:
* walking - shut down clothing stores selling warm clothes in March, also shut down shoe repair
* bicycling - shut down bicycle stores (so you can't buy bicycle tires, only all the car tires you want), and
* public transportation - stopped commuter rail service, reduced bus schedules and capacity by about 80%

The governors have since admitted that motorcycles and bicycles are essential, but the resistance and delays give me the impression they were angry anyone questioned their orders at all, and they didn't think that anyone without a car should be allowed to travel more than a block or so.

Thank you! I have been feeling like a voice crying out in the wilderness, especially on the "Politics" thread. For every "expert" put out there by MSM on COVID-19, there has been one saying the opposite but you have to look for them. I have said before to watch out for contact tracing. It is no more than a way to track everyone. If the majority is ever going to take back what is left it will have to be soon. The real pandemic is not COVID-19, it is creeping authoritarianism.

Wiping just the steering wheel and door handle isn't enough. No car dealer will let you test drive by yourself, and dealers designate specific cars for demo test drives. I can see a sensible fear with dealers not wanting to defend "your demo car gave me COVID, now pay my medical bills" claims, too. The only safeguard is the dealer keeps the records of who drove, which will facilitate contact tracing after it's too late.

My primary vehicle was due to be replaced this spring as it no longer keeps the rain out of the interior (and it isn't a convertible). It smells like a swamp when I drive to the supermarket, so I'm sure I do too when I get out. At least I can roll down the windows now. March wasn't fun.

I'm sure this is all true, but how could car rental possibly be any safer? (Which was not shut down.)
Seem like walking would avoid the confined spaces (i.e. be the safest), but I haven't seen any effort to limit speeding drivers, or allow shoe repair.
