I usually like to go late on weekends, which tends to simplify my choices.

But having just read a thread here about the increase in recent crime, a location getting robbed, and the hands off approach by nypd, I think I will start going earlier in the day from here on. Wednesday 4pm seems a lot safer than Saturday 11pm. Any thoughts?

The late night on any given day of the week has become quite dangerous. If you are looking to go on weekends, try to make sure you are done before 9PM.

On weekdays before 7PM; mainly on Mondays and Tuesdays. Many bars and restaurants have shut down for good and the ones operating even after COVID lockdown, usually don't open on Mondays and Tuesdays. So with less people walking around, it is quite dangerous if something were to happen.

Whatever you are comfortable with. I've been in the city late at night with my gf recently and didn't feel like it was more dangerous than before.

Depends on the neighborhood. Generally anywhere in Manhattan I’d feel pretty much safe on a weekend night. In midtown late at night on a weekday I might feel a bit more iffy but it would depend where in midtown.

Someplace like Murray hill, upper east side, or the villages I’d feel totally fine in at all hours of the week. Have not been in the lower east side much so can’t say what it’s like weeknights right now.
