If your little brain is telling you to charge it, then you got a problem. If you don’t have an addiction problem now, you will in a year.
I’m not addicted nor am I hard up for money. The reason why I wanna charge it is I get a good amount of points with American Express but also my wife has noticed me taking money out that is right around the same amount consistently. I go to the spas once a week, so I don’t wanna throw red flags I opened up a credit card without her knowing

In that case, my apologies. How about having a portion of your paycheck direct deposit to a venmo account that she doesn’t know about. Reduce your 401(k) portion so that there’s no difference in your paycheck or ask for a raise.

Another thing you can do is to always offer to get lunch for people at work and have them Venmo you what they owe. Then you can withdraw the cash with a Venmo debit card when you have enough. This way your SO only sees money coming out of the bank to restaurants and fast food joints. I didn’t do this for the hobby but it came to me as an option when one time I realized I had over 500 in my Venmo just by doing this for two months.

Other ways to get extra cash is to buy things at stores that have cash back option. Home Depot and ShopRite and 7/11 are good places.

doesn't she see the bill and would wonder what "X spa" is on your statement 2-3 times a month?

I don’t know. A secret credit card seems a lot riskier to me. If she notices the cash withdrawals, isn’t she going to notice you paying an American Express bill that’s even bigger ($800 for 4 visits a month). What if you start getting mail from AmEx? I’d also suggest that the points aren’t worth it because most spas that accept cards will charge a CC fee that will be more than the value of the points. As others have said, use your debit card for purchases at places that allow cash back. Or, say you need a car repair and then write yourself a check made out to cash for a larger amount. I wouldn’t want the paper trail that comes with a CC.

Exactly, i have an AMEX card and its set to be paperless, the only paperless thing is the bill which is emailed to you along with dozens of other emails. They still mail you promotional post cards as well, hell the card itself gets mailed to you. Then the points this varies by the type of AMEX card but regardless spending $200 at a spa is only going to be worth about 20 points or so which is basically shit. Oh and the card will be on a credit report so if SO ever sees that..

Not if she doesn’t know about the account.
if she knows your social sec # she can get on credit karma and get your credit report which not only will show all your accounts but the balance and history of that credit card. If your wife isn’t as savy as you think she is I’m sure her Private Detective can find it easily if your wife has suspicious thoughts. Trust me the safest way to hide money from your wife is debit cards like Venmo which don’t show up on credit reports. Everyone has Venmo and that doesn’t bring up red flags. You can make your transactions private too. if that doesn’t appeal to you then look at ways you can make legitimate transactions that won’t bring up alarms. Taking extra cash out every time you go to 7/11 or Home Depot is near impossible to track.

I do the extra cash route. Every time we visit one of our kids I always give them some cash (100-200) "just because" and don't say what I actually have and actually gave them. Luckily, we make enough, so that an extra few hundred each month is not killing us. Plus, I run alot of errands as I WFH and need excuses to go to Home Depot or costco 1-2 times a week, or go out to lunch with a friend, etc, etc. The extra cash route leaves no paper trail and can only be questioned with "wow, you went through some extra cash last month" and I respond "yeah, I gave $200 to X, the cleaning lady was here the other day, and I had lunch at the diner with Y, and I paid cash for those bagels you wanted the other day", etc, etc
