So to keep things private and discreet, I have used a Google Voice phone to text and talk to providers.
Sometimes I will reach out and ask a few clarifying questions, sometimes try to ask for a current accurate picture, verify menu options, etc. Sometimes these questions are answered sometimes not. The only time I ever used my real cell was about three or four years ago, when all of this was brand new to me.
I never save these conversations. As a result I’ll sometimes ask the same provider the same questions a few months after having asked the first time. Awkward, but no big deal.
But … earlier this week, I responded to an ad I saw on rub ratings using my Google voice account.
The provider answered a few questions, and then started calling me by name (first AND last). It was all fun and flirty, but she refused to tell me how she got my name. I used a phony Google account when I set everything up so I doubt it could be from that, but I do have “real” Google account as well.
In any case I am freaked out. How could this have happened?
I’ve asked and was told she would let me know one day.
Odd fact in all of this: A Google search of her number turned up no old ads or any other reference.
Weird?!!? I’m a bit shaken by this because of all the family reasons you can imagine.
Any thoughts about how this could happen?
Please spare me the jokes about Vice Squads etc. I’m really nervous about this and want to know if there are any obvious things I should be doing to better cover my tracks.
Thanks
