How do you think they got your number?

They have everyone's number. I use a burner phone for the hobby and have gotten the expired car warranty calls, the social security suspension calls, the IRS audit calls, the weird texts with random web sites, etc. They start with a list of numbers and keep calling or texting until they hook someone.

Even If it were the cops you wouldn’t want to possibly incriminate yourself because they are investigating someone else. Let them figure out the case without your help because the risk of you giving them details isn’t going to benefit you at all and will only put you at risk for getting some bullshit charge. Even if you didn’t want to talk and they actually arrest you then don’t open your mouth no matter how trivial the question is and lawyer up. Zip them lips and find an attorney.

Look up "phone spoofing" it's a pretty common scam for credit card and banking fraud. As others mentioned, I'd recommend always verifying the details of the caller then calling back to confirm. If it's legit, they won't mind.

Lotta scams out there. Just recently one of the online games I play, I got challenged by a random person whose handle was "sugarmommy". We started playing the game (turn based so it can go on for days or weeks). "she" starts messaging me. Claims she is a heart surgeon on a contract in Dubai for the next couple months, then coming back to the US. Asking me personal questions (of course) and I am being generic in responses. She asks me can we talk on WhatsApp or some other chat app. I say why. She said she doesnt like to message in the game. I said I don't have those apps, then she wants my phone # to text me. I said I don't give that out for security... you see nice but we dont know each other well, why not just talk to me here if you wanna talk. Of course, she goes dark, never completes the game. Sad shit... I'm sure some desperate guys will bite and think they are talking to some rich lady who wants their cock. I'd rather miss out on a lucky break then have 1 iota of risk I dont need. Words to live by!

Sounds like the same person, doctor in Dubai, that contacted my friend online but he went farther, more gullible. Said she lived in Florida near where he lives down there. Gave his phone number, the texts started. She wanted to meet him, sent pretty nice pictured. Said she was looking fir a nice guy to hook up with when she returns to Florida.Wanted him to pick up a package she was sending and had a contact person here in US. End of story was that she needed him to send the dude money to pay for shipping and import tax or something before he went to customs to pick it up. It took awhile to get rid of her.

Hope he got out of that without too much issue. Very rarely is some rich or professional person like a doctor who is busy going to strike up a contact with a random guy. Of course this "lady" has no pic, her image is a flower, how convenient. I'm not saying I am ugly but I'm nothing special, no George Clooney over here. If she was real I doubt she would use that stupid fake name and try to strike up conversations on an online scrabble. Sure, there is always that 1% chance it's real and I missed a chance... but, I'd rather lose a real chance then lose everything!

She hit him up on Facebook, I recall the flower thing. She sent him pics though. He thought it was real in the beginning, he even sent me the pics. I told him to slow down and be careful from the beginning.

Yea you gotta be cautious and not reveal details without being 1000% sure. Better safe than sorry, the old saying that will always ring true. Esp in hobbying situations.

There's sites out there which will replicate a legitimate number. Years ago Spooftel was one where you call thru your computer and your landline to make the call look legit. There's a lot of scams out there, just be careful...

It's a scam bro, they say you can avoid being arrested by paying a certain amount and the site to pay on is some bullshit site. Scared me too at first but if it was for real they wouldn't give as many outs as th
Even if it were the actual police, why on God's green earth would you go in and answer questions? They are not after you? Really? You know, cops are allowed to lie to you. People try to talk themselves out of jail and talk themselves into prison. Shut the F up!
