As a bleeding heart liberal if there was any evidence that shutting down these shops lead to less human trafficking and/or a better life for the women involved I would support them even if it meant personally I would not have as much fun.
However that is not the case, these raids are just the cheapest form of political theater. It's not like they are going to help these women get jobs or support their families or provide them with healthcare. And it's not like you take all the AMPs out of Jackson Heights and suddenly the crime and poverty in JH will suddenly be gone.
This is all for show, and I would be okay with it even as harmless theater but they really arrest these women and it really has an impact on their lives. Year ago the police did a raid in Flushing and it lead to the death of a massage worker some say suicide some say the police murdered her, regardless she died a rather horrible death.
And after her death the City said they would stop doing those raids... but here we go again, because "who cares, it's totally fair game to screw with their lives to score a few more votes, these aren't even people they're just props... so what if some massage worker died in a raid, who even cares if some nameless sex worker died in a raid years ago."
Well her name was Yang Song, she went by CiCi, she was my friend, and I care very much
