You are certainly free to arrange your behavior and your lifestyle as you wish. The same is true of the rest of us.
As was pointed out above, you are making numerous unfounded assumptions about the ladies in this profession.
Certainly, these ladies would prefer it if they could make the same money in some other line of work where they don't get harassed by locals, bullied by unsavory customers, threatened with legal action, forced to fork over freebies by bent coppers, etc.
Many, probably most have some negative feelings about their profession.
That said, how many people working at Walmart, Wawa, or the local nail salon feel exuberantly fulfilled in their jobs? For much crappier pay!
You are defending the tribalism of this neighborhood, with their comments like "whores walking around the streets". These ladies haven't done anything outside the confines of the house where they are located, and they are providing needed services for pay in the best spirit of free-market capitalism. It just so happens that their profession is illegal. So is cheating on income tax, disobeying traffic laws, peddling prescription drugs, running neighborhood poker games, diddling under-agers, etc., etc.
Sure, the locals have preferences for what they want and don't in their neighborhood. But, that sort of justification (in its extreme, a mob mentality) has historically led to a shitload of evil things taking place in the name of maintaining neighborhood values.
In the best case, the Afton ladies will be able to relocate somewhere that doesn't have such an onerous community values approach. Then, maybe these busybodies can get to work on the carjackings, muggings, wee-hours smash-and-grabs, oxycontin trade, and other things that cause far more societal damage than do the ladies who keep our juices flowing.
