This is to get traffic flow as quick as possible. Then construct the outer three lanes in each direction. Once done remove the temporary road and fill and complete the inner three lanes construction in each direction. Is this the cheapest way, no. But it gets people and goods moving on 97 in the shortest amount of time.
the economic benefit far out ways the additional construction cost.

Bull shit! It’s too important a road. This happened on route 80 in Nj a few years back. It was too important. They had a temporary bridge in place in a week. It might take a while to all be permanently repaired but don’t underestimate an Americans ability to do something when they kick the scumbag, political money leaches to the side. You’ll be amazed how fast things are temporarily back to normal. The real question is… if they can fix this that quick, why the fuck are all these problems everywhere?

Open - end contract awarded to an experienced private construction company with precise experience with this exact issue. They are already ahead of schedule. Shapiro is going to live stream the work as they forge ahead 24/7 until the project is complete.

It won't be permanently repaired but the new plan makes it seem likely that they will have 6 (3 in each direction) temporary lanes opened in very short order while they begin to replace the permanent structure and paving in a phased process. I think easily 95 will be partially reopened in well less than 2 months. This is almost a miracle, that everyone came up with innovative approach.

PennDOT hired Philly-based highway contractor Buckley & Co. to reconstruct the highway. The project is expected to rely on many local building trades workers.
“We have a commitment that this stuff that you call rain won’t stop us, wind won’t stop us,” said Ryan Boyer, business manager for the Philadelphia Building Trades. “Without it being an act of God, you’ll see construction workers here every day, all day.”

Buckley & Co. has been involved in many major projects and emergency road repairs.

Unlimited budget. 24/7 crews. Waiving of regulation. I'm sure the usual union posturing will not be tolerated either.

That the crux of our problem today. We know exactly what needs to be done but need to cut the red tape and provide exceptions to the rules to do it.

Not sure where anyone said unlimited budget. Where did you see waiving of regulations?

Crux of our problem? that everyone is busting thier tail to fix this major artery.... are you saying they should let it sit and take its place on the calendar in the backlog of repairs needed to the American infrastructure ?

This a interstate highway that is being repaired, it carries interstate commerce. and is a major through route, not to mention for its original design, that being for the security of the Country. It is not a new route looking for approval.

Tax funds - the money that you and I entrusted to the government to spend wisely - will pay for the repairs, initially. The government will then go after the gasoline truck's insurance company (who is shitting their pants) for reimbursement.

Government spending is slowed down by "red tape" on purpose. The red tape is a series of checks and balances so that no one fucktard can decide to hand it all over to cousin Vinnie who takes off for the Caribbean. Stealing and mishandling still happens, but there is much less of it because of the red tape. Sometimes, the government will declare a state of emergency and unilaterally "trust" a reliable and proven entity to just go do the right thing, keep good accounting records, and check in with our experts, engineers and accountants on a daily basis. It might still go south, or it might work out great - time will tell.

I'll bet my Five Timer Jacket this contractor is planning to look like a hero and solidify millions of future bid work here, state-wide and nationally. The ribbon cutting ceremony with Mayor Kenney, Gove Shapiro and Pres Biden will be a nice resume builder for them.

Hi stupid question maybe I only come to Center City Philly once in a while from the Poconos - 476 South most of the way Does this affect my trip once i get closer to the city ? Thanks
Yes, you will be impacted because of those folks who come from up north who now will take the NE extension and head in on the Surekill, instead of I95 .
I traveled to downtown on Wednesday from western NJ. GPS sent me down 476, instead of down 31 to 95, like it usually would. Said it was quicker.

This guy fukin gets it. I can’t imagine what the owners of that transportation firm are going through right now.

Buckley is already huuuuge in Philly. Good guys too. They didn’t need any more pull for future opportunities, but this is another big feather in the cap.
