This is a fair point. And it's important to note, some AREN'T looking for sexual acts, and some aren't even necessarily in it to meet. One that I have met told me she is on there because a lot of guys request the norm, like pics or videos, for cash, and some request socks and underwear. To each their own. Lol.

I agree with you on the low volume part. Most the women I see do not do this full time. It's supplemental money for them. A lot of teachers, grad students, waitresses, or new-age hippies born 25 yrs too late. They can afford to be more selective, and their real life job, kids, etc., keep the volume down. They might have a profile on some sight, but are not frequent posters there.
They get business more from WOM, or the old fashion way with recommendations from a concierge who gets a finder's fee. Some are a GF of a full time provider who "fill in for her" when the GF has a regular client in town, but is on her period, etc. One I saw was the younger sister of a regular of mine, and when older sis wasn't available said she could send over her younger sister instead. Younger sis only did an occasional one like that.
For some of them, especially some of the single moms, they have no regular BF and limited romantic social life so they value guys who provide some income and also treat them like a real date--which is exactly what I view it as for me as well. The extra I spend on a nice dinner or movie is usually a good investment.

They are swamped with responses from dozens of guys promising everything from fat monthly allowances to vacation trips. Because of this, it’s hard to connect with these girls since your response just becomes one more on top of the pile and they just ignore it. Even my clever message repartee often fails in this situation

You can look at it one of two ways. Yes, the good looking girl is going to get a lot of messages. You could potentially end up in the spam folder, so to speak. The other side is, most of those guys are going to say something out of line right off the bat, OR, the basic Hey, How are you? This is a chance to show you are better then over 80% of the competition right from the jump.

Oh I agree this is clearly a case of YMMV when trying to connect on SA. Just have to realize that no matter how clever your message is or how much “game” you have in person, it’s still a numbers game. Your wonderful qualities are oftentimes just going to be drowned out by the sheer number of other responses she gets. Some girls get completely overwhelmed by this and just leave the site. Others just take the best offer they can find. One time a girl I met showed me the messages she got. Over 100. And yes some were just jerks asking for nude pics or BJs, but a sizable number were from “normal” guys as well. You just have to accept this as a feature of the site and move on to the next one

A few grad students, mostly teachers/office admin/free lance writers/etc. who might like their job but don't make enough at it. One used to be in med school when she was working (stopped when she graduated with her MD). A couple have better paying jobs but enjoy the excitement/attention, or in one case is just a nympho.

I stay away from those who admit to having an SO, especially a husband. One said she was "separated" from her husband, but still lived with him & was trying to work things out. No thanks. The last thing I want is to deal with an angry spouse, especially an armed one.
