Sheriff admits there’s insufficient proof of human trafficking in Florida case

Read the latest article, no proof or insufficient proof of human trafficking. Take a plea deal? Hell naw. Whether or not Kraft is prosecuted is anyone’s guess, I feel LE and officials will come under heavy scrutiny for costing taxpayers tons of money and for what? LE should have just written him a ticket and mailed it to him.[/QUOTE
The cost to the tax payer is not going to be the arrests but an investigation that went on for half a year. Mailing the 170 plus guys victimized by this tickets does not get the headlines this TV tough guy sheriff wanted, and got. Arresting and charging the “trafficking victims” with felonies really is not the publicity he wanted.

Further it is immoral to jack up the charges on these women to force them to say they were sex trafficking victims when they knew they were not.

Add to that .. they almost watched free "movies" in the control center for a long time! God knows how that can be justified for 6 months! Also, if videos were edited, did any of them ones involving their friends removed - any preferential treatment? Lots of open questions defense will explore

If they really want to catch human trafficking, they should look at US/Mexican border. Everyday, hundreds or even thousands get trafficked in to the US. And the driver's license for the illegals is another form of trafficking or, at least, facilitating the trafficking.

There are/were several "cantinas" here in the north and east sections of Houston, officials know full well that most, if not all of the women are being forced to work (sex) in these clubs/pool halls are trafficked, its been reported on in the local, state and national news, yet LE can't seem to shut them down, these women are most definitely not there willingly, most are hispanic/south american women, there can't leave, the method used to get fs from the girl of your choice is, purchase a very expensive beer, $60 to $80 for a single beer, you get the beer alright all the while being let into the back of the place where these women are kept, fear, violence and intimidation is used by the low lifes owners, to put it mildly, to keep these women in check, when officials have attempted to intervene, questioning the women, none would admit to being forced, they are to afraid of what will happen to family back home. The guys running these places are deemed a menace to society, some real dirtbags worthy of nothing more than a bullet to the back of the head, for real. They entice the women to come work, making promise of a better life, little do they know they'll literally become sex slaves. I stay away from these particular areas of Houston, to many undocumented illegals, dope everywhere, high crime 24/7 these areas looks more like a slum, fuck that. The living conditions for these women is unbelievable. Some have finally been closed down, arrests and all, but the damage to these victims is done.

Trafficking is rare in brick and mortar AMPs. AMP employees almost always live in the AMP, not because they are being held prisoner, but for several reasons--here are just three:
1. They have no income they can declare on a rental application--they don't get any documentation of their share of the house fee or their tips. So they can't rent a decent place without proof of income. And listing their employer as an AMP probably would not endear them to some landlords.
2. Hours usually run from 9 or 10 AM to 10 or 11 PM. The vast majority don't want a car or want to try to get a driving license, so they would have to get a cab, uber, bus, or walk to whatever place they were living at if not in the spa. Possibly dangerous late at night or money they don't want to spend. And it would seriously cut into the time they have to sleep and to get ready for work in the morning.
3. The issues of dealing with utilities, furnishing an apartment, etc. would be a headache given the limited English some have and another expense--they want to amass money, not spend it.
Exact same reasons sweat shops existed for a very long time.

I was always cynical, but have gotten more so in my old age. There do seem to be at least two sets of laws, with the law being applied very differently depending on what group you are in. If you are a member of certain groups. LE will look the other way. What happened with Jesse Smollett in Chicago this week is a textbook example of that. I know if did what Jesse did, they'd prosecute me to the fullest extent of the law. Lucky thing that LE didn't find some poor White guy who fit the description of Jesse's faux attacker. That poor bastard would be over his head in deep shit and no good lawyer would touch his case. And Smollett would have no qualms about letting him rot in jail for some made up crime.

Along those lines, one reason I think the authorities target AMPs is because they are mainly frequented by White men. Hence the narrative that these women are trafficked. It supports the narrative of evil White men doing bad things to oppress poor Asian women. Meanwhile the real oppression, big as a fuking barn, is ignored because it doesn't fit the PC narrative. Of course, like I've said before: Life ain't fair.

Yeah, makes a lot of sense. Everyone knows that only white people go to jail for 20-40,% longer for the same offenses with the same extenuating circumstances.

The trafficking claims in my opinion sound a lot like the 'weapons of mass distraction' claims used years ago to falsely justify an unnecessary war. Now the 'trafficking' claims are being used to justify a crackdown on AMPs (an even easier target than Iraq). The tune sounds very familiar, only the band members and bagmen have changed.

I see that as a valid concern, but we've all seen the really bad conditions from the last big raid on the west side of 35.

Mike you are so full of shit. I have been to a couple of cantinas in Telephone Rd near Hobby Airport and can tell you no one is being trafficked. I have been to ALL of the Korean bars on Telephone Rd and I can tell you I have seen no evidence of trafficking, just people that want to make money. The police can do what ever they want, especially in Houston. This is clearly evidence by the fact that they got a warrant to do a raid on a house with a fictious investigation. They wound up killing the couple that lived there. So, what you are saying is that the cops are in on it because if they know that sex slaver is going on, they have to be a part of it. They are getting their cut of the pie. I don’t buy it. Cops are lazy but they are not stupid…...they are also corrupt so they are allowing this.

Remove the criminal penalties for prostitution and if a woman or a girl, or a boy for that matter, is being forced to peddle their bodies then they can go to the police without fear. A customer, or as you assholes like to say “Johns” see this can they can go to the cops without fear. You people never really evidence sex slavery or trafficking beyond the teenage runway who fall under the influence of a pimp. Then you send them back to the environment they left…where there uncle was fucking them. Open your eyes.

I may be full of shit at times ain't no denying it, lol. I'm not talking about the telephone rd section nor the Hobby area. You're talking about the old, very old Korean great grand ma's on telephone and Wayside perhaps, as you can see my post I mentioned South American women not Asian.

Actually that's very misleading. Manhattan Institute scholar Heather Macdonald debunked that myth long ago:

"The most dangerous misconception about our criminal justice system is that it is pervaded by racial bias. For decades, criminologists have tried to find evidence proving that the overrepresentation of blacks in prison is due to systemic racial inequity. That effort has always come up short. In fact, racial differences in offending account for the disproportionate representation of blacks in prison. Following conviction, blacks were more likely to be sentenced to prison, however, due to their more extensive criminal histories and the gravity of their current offense.

Blacks make up 62 percent of all robbery defendants and 57 percent of all murder defendants in the nation’s 75 largest counties, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, though they are only about 15 percent of the population in those places. Blacks commit homicide at eight times the rate of whites and Hispanics combined."

I'll defer to Koondog on the validity of those stats re: AA sentencing. Beyond that, the whole "sanctuary city" (or even state) movement is a huge attempt by pandering officials to just look the other way. Even more egregious is when they release known felons who the Feds would deport. Seems that just about every big city is a sanctuary city at this point. Our tax dollars at work.

You are partially correct, that would make it easier for guys to report. But for a woman who fears for the life of her family in Columbia, it does nothing.

Your narrow view that trafficked women don't really exist is as wrong as the Thumpers and feminists who think they are all trafficked. We won't make things better until people recognize both realities exist, and only one should be a crime.

TGBeldin I don’t have a narrow view that trafficking in people does not take place. If you think that then you are mistaken. I just do not think it happens in the Unites States to the level that many would want you to believe. The women in this fiasco in Florida were not trafficked, they were not forced, the police had them under watch for months. When it was clear they were not victims of sex trafficking they set up the cameras and let this go for one more month so as many men as possible would run through the spa. There are things the police should not do, things they said they would do only in cases of possible terrorism.

Years ago, there were a couple if incidents were, I now would think were suspicious. I lived in a small town with a big military post and at a strip club a guy told me that the dancer I was talking to could be had for a price. He was a straight up biker and I was not having it. The dancer was American and the biker was American. Same town at the same time I went to a massage place and bikers ran security, the girls were Korean, and I left because I did not feel comfortable with a bunch of big ass bikers around. I did not think trafficking at the time. Looking back, I don’t know if I would have informed the police as I was promotable to my next rank below the zone and this was criminal on my part. Also, I would have been shamed had I gone to the police. Again, looking back I don’t know if I would have had the courage to report this.

For women who fear for their families back in Columbia, Vietnam, China, Russia, Ukraine or DR keeping or removing the criminal penalties in this country will not change their condition.

What took place in Florida, the human trafficking investigation, was a fraud. They got 170 customer and about 10 prostitutes. They did not get the Albanian mafia, Chinese tirades, La Cosa Nostra or Asian smugglers, they got a bunch of lonely old guys getting hand jobs.
